(Note: an earlier version of this article appeared here. This version supersedes and replaces the earlier one: this is the official public release of the mark. We now provide definitive terms for its use, and Nina Paley, the designer of the new mark, has started using it in commerce for her film "Sita Sings The Blues".)
The Creator-Endorsed Mark is a logo that a distributor can use to indicate that they are distributing a work in a way that its creator endorses — typically, by sharing some of the profits with the creator. In a world where more and more creators are let their works circulate freely on the Internet, this gives a reliable way for redistributors to signal to their customers that they are supporting the artist.
